Who else is beyond ready for some spring-time weather? With the below-freezing temperatures, many of us are feeling less than motivated to do the work necessary to keep our business moving forward. Running a business takes a lot work, obviously, but staying on track to meeting your goals can seem like a daunting- or even boring- task when you’d rather hit the slopes or stay curled up in bed with a cup of coffee and Friends streaming on Netflix. The problem is, even though you’re probably attempting to work, you’re not actually getting anything accomplished. That’s why I’ve gathered my 3 personal steps to get- and stay- motivated:
1. Get over it.
This line from He’s Just Not That Into You comes to mind: “You all thrive on the drama!” The struggle is real for you! You need money! You need more clients/sales! But, instead of complaining about it, follow these steps: 1. Get off Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter. 2. Do the work. Even if you’re not ‘motivated’ you can start by putting in the hours. If you need a little inspiration, take 10 minutes and search Pinterest for “Business Motivation.” Then get to work.
2. Surround yourself with positive, professional people.
Take a close look at who you spend the most amount of time with. Jim Roth said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” I’m sure you’d agree that is true, and you may also now be re-evaluating your social and professional circles.
Do your friends and associates inspire you?
One of my goals for 2015 is to attend as many marketing conferences as possible around the country. I want to surround myself with the smart, successful people in my industry, so that I can be inspired, and I can inspire as well.
3. Take action
You’re ready to map out your goals, create a plan, and start. Start right now.
